PVSITES Demo Sites: PV façade installation ongoing
Works for the installation of a ventilated façade at Tecnalia's offices in San Sebastian are ongoing. This PVSITES demonstration site comprises the installation of two symmetrical ventilated façades made of photovoltaic glass with back-contact c-Si cells (Crystalline silicon) manufactured by Onyx Solar. Currently, the installation has been done for one façade. As shown in the pictures, the PV glass modules establish themselves directly on a metal substructure which has been mounted on the existing windows.
Once installed and connected, the façades will be able to generate electricity. In addition, the shadow cast by the modules will reduce the intensity of solar radiation in the building providing passive cooling to the offices and hence improving the overall building energy performance.
